Job Summary
The Public Area Attendant / Houseperson is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, appearance, and overall presentation of all public spaces in alignment with the Tides Inn mission and Forbes Five-Star standards. This role ensures that all guest-facing areas are consistently clean, safe, and welcoming, contributing to a luxurious and comfortable guest experience. Success in this position is demonstrated through attention to detail, efficiency, and the ability to anticipate and respond to guest needs while minimizing disruption. The Public Area Attendant plays an important role in supporting overall guest satisfaction and upholding the reputation of The Tides Inn.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
• Regular and Reliable Attendance is an essential function of this role.
• Exemplifies the Tides Inn Mission and Values.
• Constantly and consistently exhibit The Tides Inn mission values and standards of behavior including adherence to the Forbes Five-Star standards.
• Forbes Five-Star standards are as follows: Cleanliness & Condition, Graciousness, Thoughtfulness & Sense of Personalized Service, Guest Comfort & Convenience, Sense of Luxury, Wellness.
• Ensure exceptional cleanliness of all public areas including hallways, foyers, lobbies, restrooms, elevators, stairwells, entryways, dining areas and other spaces where guests may frequent.
• Empty trash containers and collect obvious trash materials and remove them from area.
• In restrooms: clean bathroom sinks and vanity area and refresh and straighten up amenities and sundries, as necessary.
• Clean commodes and replace toilet tissue, as necessary.
• Vacuum all carpeted areas as scheduled keeping nearby guest activity in mind. Make every effort to avoid disrupting the guest experience when in public spaces.
• Sweep, mop and/or polish hard surface floors as scheduled, ensuring proper signage alerting guests and fellow associates of potential slip or other safety hazards.
• Clean glass and mirror surface as scheduled and as necessary.
• Dust all hard surfaces including furniture, picture frames, and other items that are part of the regular décor of the property.
• Affirmatively and proactively engage guests in hallways with friendly and pleasant greetings and appropriate conversation if called for.
• Remove dirty linens and replace them with clean; assist Room Attendants with any other items as directed by Director of Housekeeping.

Qualifications
• Specific Experience: Prior hotel or equivalent level guest service experience required. Previous housekeeping experience strongly preferred.
• Specific Skills: Attention to Detail: Commitment to high cleanliness standards and thoroughness. Teamwork: Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Communication: Clear verbal communication to interact with guests and staff. Ability to engage in friendly, polite conversation. I must speak clearly and comprehensible. Supply Management: Stocking and organizing linen closets, storage rooms, and ensuring restrooms/pool areas have necessary supplies (soap, paper towels, etc.). Knowledge: Understanding of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and hotel procedures.

Physical Requirements
• Work Environment: Position requires performance of duties primarily indoors but may require occasional work outdoors with exposure to inclement weather with hot and cold temperatures. Requires use of cleaning solutions that require the following specific handling practices, and which may have an odor.
• Equipment Used: Cleaning tools, vacuum, mop, cleaning solutions, service cart.

• Lifting – up to: 10 pounds or more and may require occasional lifting of 20 pounds or more

• Other: Position requires constant standing and walking as well as significant stooping, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling. Requires stamina for long periods of physical activity and maintaining high productivity standards.
