Accounts Officer (recruiting from Malta only)

Our Client, a leading company in Malta, is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Accounts Officer to join its finance team. The successful candidate will support day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, reconciliations, tax compliance, budgeting, cash-flow monitoring and audit activities.

This role is suited to an accounting professional who is keen to develop their technical knowledge, gain broader exposure to financial operations and progress towards a complete professional accounting qualification.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, ledgers, invoices, receipts and supporting documentation.
  

• Process and reconcile accounts payable and receivable, follow up on outstanding payments and resolve invoice discrepancies.
  

• Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports, management accounts, budgets and financial forecasts.
  

• Perform bank reconciliations and monitor cash flow, expenditure and financial transactions to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  

• Assist with the preparation of VAT and corporate income tax returns and support compliance with applicable financial regulations.
  

• Provide documentation and information required for external audits, while supporting client onboarding, accounting system updates and other finance-related activities.
  

Requirements

• Around 2–3 years of relevant accounting or finance experience, preferably in a professional or commercial environment.
  

• Good understanding of basic accounting principles, bookkeeping and financial reconciliation procedures.
  

• Strong attention to detail with the ability to analyse financial information accurately and identify discrepancies.
  

• Good organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  

• Clear and professional communication skills when dealing with clients, colleagues, auditors and other stakeholders.
  

• Strong willingness to learn, adapt to new accounting systems and processes, and develop professionally within the finance function.
  

Licenses & Qualifications

• Currently reading for a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent.
  

• Alternatively, candidates who are approximately halfway through the ACCA qualification are encouraged to apply.
  

• Knowledge or practical experience with Xero will be considered an asset.
  

• Working knowledge of VAT, corporate tax and applicable financial regulations is advantageous.
  

• Commitment to continuing professional development and completion of relevant accounting qualifications.
