Capital Project Intelligence (CPI for short) is a full-service consultancy and project services firm serving North-American clients in the infrastructure, utility, and construction industries. We are seeking a Senior Distribution Engineer to support a California utility client. The role is fully remote, but clients based in Southern California are preferred. The Senior Distribution Engineer serves as the utility’s designated design reviewer, performing QA/QC on submitted designs and acting as the primary technical liaison between the utility and designers, ensuring that all designs comply with the utility’s standards, policies, procedures, and applicable tariff requirements. The ideal candidate will have 6+ years of design experience, including underground / overhead design, and preferably prior design review or QA/QC experience.

Job Responsibilities
Review submitted electric and gas designs for compliance with utility standards, design practices, and construction requirements
Provide design review comments, redlines, and written feedback to designers and verify corrective actions have been completed
Approve or reject design submittals based on design quality and adherence to utility requirements
Input provided project materials into internal systems to generate bills of materials.
Coordinate with Planners, Project Managers, Construction, Engineering, Environmental, Permitting, and other stakeholders throughout the design review process
Participate in project submittal and design review meetings with designers and planning personnel
Submit environmental reviews and other approvals required to advance design projects
Review final design packages, verify required deliverables, and prepare projects for supervisor approval
Finalize work orders, perform cost reviews and calculations, and complete job packaging activities
Initiate long-lead material processes and coordinate construction reviews as required
Review and approve field and design change orders, including evaluating cost impacts and construction implications
Ensure projects are processed in accordance with utility standard practices, tariff rules, and all applicable design and construction standards
Performs other duties as necessary
Required Qualifications
Minimum of 6 years of utility design experience
Distribution design experience - including underground and overhead
Knowledge of industry regulations and standards
Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Be a strong communicator that is comfortable interacting with varied stakeholders as required
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously
Accurate timekeeping
Preferred Qualifications
Prior design review or QA/QC experience
Knowledge of GO95 & GO128
Professional Engineer (P.E.)
Reconductor, cutover, or System Hardening Design experience
Knowledge of voltage drop, voltage flicker, and voltage rise
